隋唐時期（581年—907年），為隋朝（581—618年）和唐朝（618—907年）兩個朝代的合稱，也是中國歷史上強盛的時期之一。
是經歷了五胡亂華和南北朝兩個漫長時期後的兩個大一統皇朝。
在民族思想上比較開放。
兩朝在政治、軍事、文化、經濟、科技上達到前所未有的發展，隋唐兩朝君主在治國政策上較為開明，也影響了周邊諸國向中國朝貢、學習。
隋文帝開皇九年（589年）在二百八十多年的戰亂之後重新統一了中國。
隋末大亂嚴重分裂，經過九年的統一戰爭唐朝建立。
所以史學家常把“隋唐”並稱。
在這三百多年間中國的封建社會得到很大的發展。
隋朝鼎盛時期北至東北遼寧一帶，西至新疆的塔克拉瑪干沙漠地區，東臨東海，南至越南北部一帶。
唐朝鼎盛時期北至貝加爾湖以北和外興安嶺，西至中亞的鹹海，東至庫頁島，南至越南北部。
隋朝開創了科舉制度，是歷史的一大進步。
隋廢除了九品中正制，代之以各種科目考試製度，這是從制度上認定通過考試、擇優錄取原則的確立。
使出身庶族的遇難者能夠進入政權，提高行政效率。
隋文帝確立三省六部制，府兵制。
隋唐開創了集體宰相制度，解決了君權與相權的矛盾。
三省分立的制度也使部門間相互監督，可防止任何部門濫用權力。

SuiWendireunifiedChinaintheninthyearofthereignofEmperorKaihuang(589)aftermorethantwohundredandeightyyearsofwar.Afternineyearsofunificationwars,theTangDynastywasestablishedafterthechaosoftheendoftheSuiDynasty,whichwasseverelydivided.ThisiswhyhistoriansoftenrefertotheSuiandTangdynastiestogether.Duringthesethreehundredyears,China'sfeudalsocietydevelopedgreatly.
DuringtheheydayoftheSuiDynasty,theareainthenorthreachedLiaoninginthenortheast,theTaklamakanDesertinXinjianginthewest,theEastSeaintheeast,andtheareainthesouthtonorthernVietnam.DuringtheheydayoftheTangDynasty,theareareachednorthofLakeBaikalandtheOuterHinganMountainsinthenorth,theAralSeainCentralAsiainthewest,theKurilIslandsintheeast,andnorthernVietnaminthesouth.
TheSuidynastypioneeredtheimperialexaminationsystem,whichwasamajoradvanceinhistory.Suiabolishedthenine-gradesystemandreplaceditwithasystemofexaminationsinvarioussubjects,whichwasinstitutionallyrecognizedastheestablishmentoftheprincipleofadmissionbyexaminationandmerit.Itenabledthosewhowereindistressfromthecommonpeopletoenterpowerandimprovedadministrativeefficiency.EmperorWenofSuiestablishedthesystemofthreeprovincesandsixministries,andthesystemofgovernmentsoldiers.TheSuiandTangdynastiescreatedthesystemofcollectivechancellorship,whichresolvedtheconflictbetweenthepowerofthemonarchandthepoweroftheprimeminister.Thesystemofthreeseparateprovincesalsoenabledmutualsupervisionbetweendepartmentsandcouldpreventanydepartmentfromabusingitspower.
